We don't seem to have cracked that 31 temp they forecast though there is plenty of time yet. The skies are cloudless (maybe a smear of smoke off to the north ...) and the winds are blowing up a storm. That heavy rain they forecast for tomorrow will be sneaking in overnight, one assumes... In anticipation of this, and the ceremonial deconstruction of the old shed this coming weekend, I finally cleared a track to the newer shed through the rather exuberant mallow that has taken over the orchard, and started to stow stuff in that. So the 44 has gone in first, with fencing wire rolls gone inside it, and a few more stuck on top. Then the whipper snipper which only works once in a blue moon, and there is ample space for the lawn mower when the sun goes down and I can bear to be outdoors once more. Other contents of the larger shed were beehive bits and pieces. These, and the empty hives have now been relocated up by the house temporarily, pending the construction of the new chicken run (which may be some time away). Once that is in position, the hives will be strategically placed so I can attend them without being monstered by Miss Congeniality, and restocked with a fresh swarm or two. Plenty of work to be done to clean up the frames, and replace the wax in the interim - another winter's day job methinks, with a double-boiler over the wood heater. Still to be removed from inside the shed are two more lengths of fencing wire which will be useful for the new runs, and a slightly damaged blue clam shell pond which is too good to throw out but quite useless for its designed purpose...It might hold water securely for ducks if I place black plastic under it - the harder plastic would protect the black stuff from eager toenails ... Then there are the three fuel jerry cans, but they can go into the small shed, and some garden tools ditto. More wood was stacked before my arms started to warn me the sun was a bit strong and I retreated indoors once again. Unfortunately the long spell of hot weather means the bedroom is going to be about 28 tonight, so another night of the fan running all night. At least it will be cooler tomorrow...
