There's never a dull moment on the volunteer scene, so today i was in the Garden with the lads from Workskills developing yet another bed. This is to be the scene of our Food Forest workshop that we are hosting on 18 May. If anyone wants to come they are more than welcome - it is a free event with a guest teacher from up north. We will be converting the new bed into a food forest and eating ourselves senseless on the usual overcatering that goes on in these parts. The bed is around 2.3 by 5 metres, and incorporates the weather vane that is in the Garden, so should be quite picturesque.

It will be planted up with a couple of fruit trees (on dwarfing rootstock) and berry bushes as well as veges and herbs. The theory being they will be mutually supportive. I hope it works better than my three-sisters planting that failed so miserably.

Also cleaned the bank, and did a quick trip to the shop for some milk. Didn't cut any more wood (though will need some before tomorrow night) as it was downright chilly out there this evening. While it was actually 5.5 degrees, the 'feels like' was 0.7 degrees. With nine degrees forecast for tomorrow, with winds, it will be even chillier, but hopefully I will find a sunny spell during the day and get that wood cut!
